About to Enter The 20th Century!

Well, that was a week of renovation turmoil if ever there was one!

We started on moving the blessed space age shower I have here and it turned into virtually reorganising the entire house...

We needed 3 people to move and disassemble it and that turned into setting up pipes we hadn't thought of, getting tiling for the floors, getting the gyprock sheets stored in the end room out and so many little things set in place in this type of building, it was an eye opener for sure!

To make things more interesting it suddenly went from a pleasant 17C -22C to snowing up the road, virtually overnight after 3 days of rain.

Loving the sunny days and colder weather for sure, but not the drudgery of rainy days.

However the sudden onset of the colder weather meant getting other things sorted out faster than I thought about too...like the door to the end room! Yeah, well...some things need a new purpose in life.

This door...my sister calls it "the air conditioning unit!"
I found a suitable replacement for the large door hole at the neighbour's house...and would you believe...it fitted exactly?

We didn't have to change a thing! Except adjust the shape of the fallen arch...fill in the bottom bit and patch a few more wall cracks!
You can see that this double glazed window perfectly matches the existing windows at this front side of the house.
The old window you see near the "new" wooden one will be replaced when the window people make the new windows for here. We'll enlarge the hole and add another window length, so there will be 3 the same size as the existing blueish ones.
The new ones will be recessed back a few inches for weather protection, which the old ones shown are just flush with the exterior walls.

This wonderful airy and bright room, shown below, is going to be the new kitchen.
Da-Dum! My new kitchen area! No loo, no basin, no space age shower!
I'll buy the basic kitchen in a few weeks time when the bathroom is completed and the new window finished in the door hole in the end room.
That means the house will be sealed up and air tight for winter.
Yaaahhy.
Placing up for running the pipes and then it will all be pulled back out, floors done, walls finished in a marble type finish they use over here and we will be back in in business once everything is replaced!
Lucky I have the outside dunny and still have my big white bathing dish!
This was why no one would come within 10 paces of the shower! Hahaha!
I
Go Imre! He was the only one I found in over a year of hunting, who would tackle the moving of the shower!
Sanded back an old table that was in an outside shed and was pleasantly surprised! It was OK to use as the new vanity. A coat or 2 of varnish or paint...not sure yet...will finish it off nicely.  I think I'll put a pine shelf underneath, cover the pipes somehow  and place some nice cane baskets there.
Decided to sand back an old table from here and have a go at making a different vanity!
This is my inspiration from Catherine's Cottages from up around the Budapest area.
First frost of the season this morning!
Nice sunsets dictate some nice sunny days ahead hopefully!
Love the smoke curling up from the chimney next door!
Even completed the second chimney space and will now use it for shelving and baskets. It still was being worked on here, but is all nice and ready for the shelves now.
My rogue, predator tomatoes are still producing lovely fresh organic tomatoes! Will keep these few bushes until they are no longer viable.
Pulling this lot out as there are just too many plants!
My Oskars plants from last year are starting to bloom again.
The morning glory is still blooming...up into the peach tree now...
Can't find any tile patterns like this, so will go with something...actually, the only one I found, even after looking in OZ,
This one will do for the time being.  I needed 6 mtrs sq for the entry and they had only 6 m sq...plus one extra tile! To make matters better, they were on clearance special. Yaaahy!

So, it was a busy week indeed here.
The house is in chaos, I am bathing in the white dish again, the outside dunny is back in use, the temporary kitchen is in the dining area, the end room is a store room again and there is no floor in the new kitchen to be!

Never a dull moment for sure.
This was under the wooden flooring that the shower sat on! Now we have to dig out the dirt deep enough to cement the space and put down a nice floor covering, probably vinyl, until the parquetry gets laid next year, after May.
This coming week we'll get the walls and floors completed in the bathroom and entry, the shower, loo and vanity installed and working and with a stroke of luck I'll be able to paint most of the new bathroom next weekend.
Then the wall between the entry and new bathroom goes up...and there are only 2 challenges left there...

1/.. is to get a door made to suit the 3 other doors in the entry, as they are a metre wide and almost a foot shorter than to-days doors that are available. If I can find a second hand shop that stocks older doors, that would be ideal...

2/...is to tell Imre (next year of course) that I want the window changed to the same as the ones in the bedrooms! This will give a lot more light and after he recovers from the shock, will only take 2 days all up. I changed my mind, that's all.

Will test out the new small window that we put in a few weeks ago, but I'm not happy with it at all, so we'll wait until spring comes, it may stay or go then.

OK, am off to finish the mowing now...it rained for 4 days this past week and the blessed grass and weeds have all grown again.

Cheers and I hope you are all well.
See you soon and hopefully more good news will prevail next week.
