A Month After Christmas &It's Still like Christmas...

The 3rd week of the New Year brought a lot of great changes to the little Lodge...
  • A new name for the property...(you'll see it on the new website in the coming weeks)
  • A new floor for the front room... half of it anyways...
  • A new linen press, well 2 actually...I gave Imre the wrong wardrobe to put shelves in! Now I have the tracks to use in the fancy robe if ever I need to put shelves in it...again! Dohhh...
  • A new pair of pelmets for the front room windows,
  • New window sills inside for all the 6 new windows,
  • A lawfully required fire box/soot removal door up in the chimney in the bathroom
  • Cupboard doors in the bathroom, on the cupboard we made out of the old bread oven fire place...using the same lovely doors that came off it.
There were lots of "hey Imre, tighten this, screw this in  please" and lots of other annoying things one needs a handy man around the place to fix.

We are going through the house, room by room doing the long awaited final jobs...all of them now.
I could not do them before as I really had not decided which rooms to use for what purpose, as over here I use different rooms from season to season for different purposes...amazing really!

Bought the curtain rods for the front room a while back and Imre put them up...but I didn't think they suited the final room purpose...soooo now he is making me wooden pelmets. I can use the curtain rods elsewhere with no great drama.

I'll get the sewing lady to make some nice padded or other type of pelmet covering for the pelmets in Feb when I find a nice pattern and suitable material for there.

Quite excited really, as if David and Dylan come over in March/April this year, I could easily have the place completed inside for them!
Here's hoping.

It will be amazing when it's all done, then we can get the outside painted, move the fence, make the new gates and the place will be "pretty well done".

Of course there will be pergolas and the roof thingy on the well and all the other little things for the house part of the outside here which is never ending, but at least the basic things are almost completed.

On the B&B website I'll be using, they advise that you have a quiet garden area for your own private use...which I never would have thought of...hence the need now for the fence to be moved so I can create a nice private area with lattice and pergola etc...
I never thought about it as I don't laze around outside, but as time goes by and a manager comes in, it will be necessary then.

A trip to Prague again is on the books, but not until the room upstairs in the cottage is completed.

I'll need 2 chandeliers for there and a couple for here...

Just can't seem to decorate without them...so I gave in and PRESTO!

Everything came to me on how to complete both buildings...

The same thing happened on a triple storey place I built in Newcastle years back...

I had done the white carpet and crystal chandeliers etc crystal door and tap handles, 5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms thing on a house, so the next one I built, I thought I'd try modern...but got stuck for months completing a lot of it as I could not put exposed recycled brick, cedar ceilings, a massive soaring brick fireplace and a conversation pit together with modern patterns. I could not even see them when I went looking!

Amazing...

All I could see were crystal chandeliers, velvet curtains and white/cream carpet...
So I did just that!

I used rust coloured crushed velvet and heavily embroidered cream lace curtains which looked stunning against the recycled bricks ..and the golden angels holding crystal wall lights made themselves right at home too.

Slate suited the floors in the entry and conversation pit around the fire place, so I laid parquetry on the kitchen family room floor and cedar doors on the kitchen cupboards, which completed the look.
I was thinking to use those Chinese lantern light things etc but just could not see it when I went looking.

So, armed with that past experience and knowledge, I'm doing the same thing here...just blessed well follow those crystals Mary!!!

Hahaha, if you can't beat them, use them...

So, it is all anticipation now, the final details will be so much fun! Can hardly wait now for winter to be gone so we can get on with things faster.

It is becoming sunny outside now, Sunday1.30 pm...If I finish my blog in time, I'll go out and make a snowman with the "kids"...the cat and dog!

The Last Roses of Summer...
My gorgeous youngest grand daughter...
Shovel the path time again...
Amazing frozen lake Tisza from the train...

Imre pulling out the shelf brackets from the wrong robe I had him do...Luckily he only put a few screws in each shelf rail and the shelves themselves were not screwed in yet!
From the family room window into the back door neighbour...

Getting things sorted to start all the window sills inside...finally!
End room, side sunset window! for me to see the sunsets! A much needed sill here too.
The chip-chop man at it again! Window sill going in...
All done...a bit more sanding and a few coats of paint...and there is one more thing to dust!
The front room verandah pelmet ...done! A small paint job, but it will be covered with a nice draped material valance...
Big pelmet over the 2 front room windows and we're all good in here!
Off to the bus stop to head into town...
A neighbour's place. They live in Holland at the moment but are coming to live here soon...
I like to take pics for them so they can see how their little house looks in different weather...
My place in the distance...
A cute little place...
Such a snowy day...
The shop up the road from me about 100 mtrs or so...
At the bus stop and the PO is over the road. People waiting for it to open at 1pm...after closing from 12md to 1pm...
The other shop in the village...at the bus stop...
Still snowing now...
Bus stop from Tiszaigar to Tiszafured and beyond from there...
Doctors surgery, next to the PO and opposite the bus stop...His poor new solar panels are snow holders today!
And off we go to town by nice modern bus...
Smurfs are happy...
...and colourful against a backdrop of snow...
Waiting at the bus stop on the way home. Peter McLean will remember this one. Have just been into City gas and found a guy who speaks good English. finally I got to see and have explained all various house heating methods. And to my surprise he solved my window condensation problems...
Started snowing again after it had melted from the verandah...it is always magical as it covers everything...
Must tidy up those horse shoes when we move the fence in March/April...
Just too lovely...
Imre left the saw horses out, but they are made from the old copper pipes, so all is good.
That's it for this week...lots done, that moved things along.

Very happy about learning how the heating should work in different homes needing different heating systems.

Great new products available so now all I have to do is get the ones that will suit here the best.

Now to invent another 2 days of jobs for Imre to do while we wait for the flooring timbers to arrive.

See you all next week and it will be February!

Can you believe that???

I went out an hour ago to make a snowman with the dog and cat for company...but got up to the belly button of the snowman and had to go inside and look up how to build a big one as my poor effort at making a big snowman kept falling apart.

I've never built a snowman before...except in Lower Bavaria at the castle in Neuschwanstein...but they were only 9 inches high, so that does not count I guess!

See you soon,

Take care...be good, stay safe, Happy Australia Day to all OZZIES,

Cheers,
M

My Place To-Day...

Well Christmas and New Year have been and gone again, now it is time to get back into the swing of things.

No travel pics today...lots of work happening here now it is easier to get inside work done due to most of the big jobs being done.

Moved all the furniture out of the front room and we are putting down the floor...finally.

...Only to findthe hardware shop has run out of the timber I'm using!

Fair Dinkum!!!

So this means that the house remains a jumble with furniture from the front room everywhere as it is still snowy outside so we can't put things on the verandah...

Lots of little jobs for Imre over his next 8 working days...

The chimney check up man came a few months back and said we have to put a metal door in the chimney in the bathroom, to clean out the soot falling from the chimney.
That chimney is the same chimney for the kitchen stove I use every day in winter, so it is important it gets done.

Then take the doors off the cupboard we made in the old bread oven that was there and straighten the front of the cupboard, as somehow we missed getting it straight in the first place!
...and do the same in the chimney over the shower cabinet that we inserted into the other fire place in the old kitchen, now bathroom!

Then he can put shelves in one of the 3 robes that were left here, so I can use it as a linen cupboard...

Then make pelmets for the front windows...I don't like the open curtain rods in there...

Then complete the front 3 fly screen trims and fit them to the front windows...

Then  put in a new power point and run a pipe for the drainage in the bathroom for the washing machine...it's in the kitchen at the moment...

Fix up a special weather cover from the outside for the air vent into the cellar to stop the snow and rain blowing into it.

...and a bunch of other little jobs I'll find as we go along, no doubt!

Lovely snow in my own backyard!
Right up to the front door...
It comes so quickly...
...and blows right onto the verandah!
Then we had a 5 hour blackout which was quite romantic actually...in the winter with the fire going and all!
I was lucky as I had a lot of candles around from Christmas!
Imre starting the final push of the big jobs...
Check out how big a ding in the wall where the first board was to go down... Imre had to cut out about an inch of timber from the first floorboard.
Dog has started jumping up on my knee now she feels more comfortable.
Try and get a pic of me ??? Nooo way human!!!
Getting there, board by board...
Now to the cat! Oh dear...do not bother me please...
OK, here...is that good enough for you human lady???
2nd big snow fall...
The deeper, wider marks in the snow are from dog...she is so little, her legs are not long enough to hit the ground through the snow, so her belly drags and smooths the top snow and the fluff on her legs makes really wide trenches...Funny little thing she is...
Up the road from me at the Hungarian Revolution monument, on my way home at 4pm ...
The path to the bus stop at 1pm...
Local church...very European...
The bus stop on the other side opposite the pretiest bus stop in the world...The PO is just at the end of the nice wall with the snow on top of each post...

The bus stop opposite the PO...
A bit of a mushy mess out there...
It still looks nice down that road...
Cat having her lunch in the sun, out of the dog's way!
Getting ready to go after her food. All these pics loaded backwards...worse luck...
The snow was breathtaking this time. I'm going to see where I can find some snow shoes, those big flat tennis racquet things...
Had to shovel the snow all the way around the house and out on the footpath...my great big corner block footpath...
You can see her little foot prints and the hair/fur drag that she makes! I wondered what it was at first.
A great field to go snow shoeing on...
She loves fossicking in the snow. She is becoming more energetic every day. She stays in her bed throughout the day when inside. Then I let her out for a few hours/ to all day depending on the weather...She is getting into a routine. When I bathed her, she did not move...she loved it and just sat/stood there like a statue...If I remember black dog, Bear, did that too. It is probably that breed...she is of the same brand I think..
So cute...Still haven't got a name for her yet and neither have I visited the neighbour re her ownership...
From the woodshed...
A few weeks ago...Haven't seen chem trails for months over here...
Between the 2 snow drops...
Heading to town the other day...Practicing with the new camera/soon to be phone.
As the sun sinks in the west, (well, almost the west)...This is about the shortest day of the year..
Another sunny day comes to an end...
The first night after I found her...
Time for a snooze...
She is stepping out in style now...more confidence too...
So, goodnight all...
Fat n' happy, I'm asleep now...
OK, I'm off too now...it is so nice to be able to type without cutting and pasting w s x y and 2...You have no idea how many times in a sentence you use the letter S...Amazing.

Anyways, that was my first week back and on the job for this year.

So, with Tuzep not being able to get the floor timbers for the next 4 weeks, next week will be the first of those 4 weeks of getting many little jobs done.

That will finalize a lot of left over or forgotten little nuisance jobs. It will be good to get them out of the way finally!

Hope you all have a great new year...
Stay healthy, fit and happy,
Love to all,
M xxxx
