4 Windows and a Door...

Well, that was interesting!

They guys did the footings where needed, then started filling the base 9 inches with broken roof tiles and little rubble stones etc, then proceeded to build the wall on Friday!

2 window spaces have been set out in the side wall and when they come back on Sunday, they'll do the front wall with door and window space.

Well, it's Sunday now and the wall is being built at the front.
It looks more believable now...hahahaha...

Imre said he had a big window for the side...about 1.8 mtrs long, so I went on Friday and had a look, before heading off to buy a window for the bathroom, after seeing that the previously rescued window from the kitchen, was beyond recovery status!

Anyways, the big window is an entire window wall! I have never seen one that big over here, so I immediately grabbed it for the big room coming up next on the to-do list!...but needed a bathroom window urgently, so Imre to the rescue again.

Imre said he had a couple of old windows...dohhh...so up the sky-high ladder he goes, into his attic, half way up to heaven. He proceed to bring different windows to the attic opening for me to view...then some nice cupboard doors and then some...

Anyways, he said..."Mary, come up"...Yeah, like fun...but I did climb up and didn't look down and definitely did NOT reach across the void to get from the end of the ladder to the attic door, but was able to see into the attic...sort of.

Long story short...He had 2 suitably sized, double glazed windows that were perfect for the side of the Romantic cottage, 2 antique glass doors exquisitely suited for the entry cupboard and some other nic-nacs.

Then I realised I had to get all the way back down the ladder...OMGoodness...never look down when you're that high...

It took me a few mins to gather my courage to gingerly place one foot at a time on each rung and after a few heavy breathing minutes I arrived back on earth again.

My attic has a built-in staircase in the wall, and you have support each side of you...most houses here have exterior access like Imre's has...so pleased mine is not scary like those exterior attics as my attic would still be full of rubbish.

I don't do heights well, but love flying...Go figure!

So, I ended up with all the ground floor windows needed for the Cottage, without having to spend very much at all, just to pay Imre, more than he asked, as  the total for the 2 side windows and the window wall for the big room, was less than the cost of a new bathroom window...plus, Imre's bathroom window was heaps bigger than I was going to buy too.

For the front, over the kitchen sink area, Imre is making the windows with 4 remaining from the 18 that a friend gave me earlier this year, so when he does that, it will make it look all nice and "cottagey".

Then for the side where we took out and tried to save the little old window, I have an unused new window here that will be perfect, so it has all worked out well, as the 3 double glazed windows almost match each other too!

Plus, another friend came and asked me on Thursday, if I needed some house doors the same as what I have here...Did I want them???  He had 2 with glass panels, like mine and one solid one and they were going cheap. He had to kidding, surely?

So, now I have all the doors and windows I need for the Honeymoon cottage, all in excellent condition, all for less than half the cost of a new ordinary, plain door!
Needless to say, I am one very happy chappy!

Was headed off to the Fish Festival yesterday arvo with friends, but we changed our minds after we saw how many cars were lined up everywhere...so we went to the thermal baths for a couple of hours instead...and got drenched in a summer 5 minute downpour!

It was the first time I'd been to the local thermal baths in Tiszafured. I had no idea they were so big, so nice and well set out. I'd been told they were awful, dirty and even the Google images pics were terrible.

Pleasantly surprised indeed.
Aniko heading off to do 20 laps of the warmer pool. The pool water was 26C and is perfect for her muscular dystrophy condition.
At the local thermal waters pool, heading in with Maria, the Mum and Eniko...
Maria, getting showered with hot water, straight from the thermal springs, before swimming
Eniko, can't wait to swim...that's when she is free...
She uses special hand paddles to help strengthen her muscles.
Maria can't help herself!. We went for a tour of the grounds and pools while Eniko did her 20 laps of the pool.
This is the indoor pool with real water straight from the thermal springs...hence the colour! Closing time.
A quick downpour, drenched everyone and most people headed home. Then the sun came out again.
This is during the downpour! This pool is tap water and is 20C.
Raining, as you can see in the pool. There are 2 lifeguards on duty too.
That's some serious water pressure there!
The kids did not care if it was raining!
...or did these people in a hotter mineral enriched water.
Eniko
Off she goes again!
Meanwhile...my nice new haircut was soon a disaster in the rain...hahaha. "Drowned rat look" it's called!
Very happy ...
A nice rainbow to signal the rain is over!
Maria having fun as always...
This cracked me up...The changing rooms! hahaha...so Hogan's Heroes!
Some lovely dahlias in a garden we went past...
There are acres and acres of sunflowers here.
As far as the eye can see...
We called in to buy a few melons on the way to the Festival.I always wanted to have a look here as I pass this spot every time I take the bus to town...
Some serious melon growing and harvesting here.
The back of the truck was full this morning!
The melon people live here in Harvest time, for about 6 or so weeks. Typical Hungarian Summer landscape.
Back home and the view from my dining room window...
This year is the biggest season for plums I have ever seen in my entire life. Every tree on the roadside is laden down with so much fruit, it is really unbelievable. Branches have broken from the weight all over the place too.
This is what I love over here...Window boxes and arched windows...
Then there's cornfields that stretch endlessly too!
6am Tuesday morning and people are setting up their little market stalls 200 mtrs up the road from me.
Early morning and the water is still...
These are little crab apples...ready in a month or so.
People were cleaning up the old cemetery this particular morning.
The closest thing to Wattle that I have seen over here.
The baby storks practicing their wing exercises! There are 4 this year. I thought 2 at first, then 3 for ages, but there are 4 babies.
Bear in his favourite pose...something, anything, in his mouth!
This reminded me of Qld in the late 60's. You would leave your car and wander off to do or find whatever and leave the car door open!
Filling up the 9 inches of sub flooring with gopher anti chew material!
Imre has hung the door in the bathroom! Now, he'll build the wall!
A friend, on his wife's scooter.
Zoltan started work on the walls yesterday.
The first corner to tackle!
Adding in a row of mud bricks...
Measuring out where the 2 side windows will go!
Locking/butting in the corner bricks...
Looking good...
A very hot day, so he finished early.
Next morning a 6am start and he's into it again!
Measuring for the windows in the kitchen.
Another corner done. That's now the 4 corners all stabilised.
Up as high as he can go by himself, so next weekend he'll have a helper to hand up bricks etc.
The front kitchen wall, ready to measure in the new window hole...
I have no idea how 6 storks fit or sit in this nest! One parent had to sit elsewhere today!
Trying out the whitewashed concrete floor as an idea. I like it a lot...

This is how they cover those water wall heaters in conspicuous places. Imre had some antique glass doors for sale!
Wall water heater...without cover.

That's all for this week.
I hope you are well, as I am here.
Stay warm, while we stay cool over here!
Cheers,
M
